Humanity is reborn in Somali.
The most severe drought of last 60 years is happening in East Africa. Africa undertakes the duty of being the litmus paper for the Western civilization that boasts with its development in all opportunities. African people, exploited, despised and treated as third class persons for ages, today, are left to their ill fate.
As is known, we have visited the camps established in Somali where the drought is at its severest under the aegis of our Prime Minister and his spouse. The tableau we faced was one of those where the words are inadequate to describe. The information we received from Turkish volunteers working there during our site visits were almost the documentary evidence of the United Nation's losing its initiative in the region with its impassive attitude. We learned that humanitarian aid were kept in Mogadishu for the past 3 months, almost left to decay. We were informed that people were hungry for two months even in the camps. United Nations should assume its fundamental duty as soon as possible, seek for helping any people under difficulty in the entire world and stop applying double standards. United Nations, with its current image, is perceived as an institution serving the interests of powerful and influential countries, using the resources for the continuation of its own reign, far worse, lost trust and eviscerated. We invite the world to be sensitive for the African people, who struggle with famine and drought on one hand and who are left to their fate in a conflict and terror environment lasting for decades. We invite the world to build strategies for absolute solution of this problem not only today but also in the future, and most importantly we invite the United Nations to reassume its fundamental duties. Turkey will lead the whole world with the duties she has assumed and the steps she has taken for the development of the region and permanent solution of the problems. We should adopt this vision as a nation and mobilize our facilities to take it to further ahead. |
